It is commonly known that biologically, we are not the same person, or a physical being as who we were 7 years ago, as all of our cells would have been replaced. But our memories of ourselves maintain the illusion of a continuous narrative. But we’re not exactly the same as we were. We grow, break down, heal, and decay in a fragmented manner, like the different cells in our body are replaced at varying lifespan. I’ve created a scaffolding structure integrated with driftwood. We wish to be the architect of our lives, but things never go as we planned or hoped. The broken figure on the structure held together with spray foam, like scar tissues filling the wounds we acquire through various traumas in our life.I hung Norigae that I created using 3d pen below the figure. These are traditional Korean pendants that women wore around their waist as a good-luck charm and pendant, carrying their hopes and dreams. They signify our ever changing aspirations and desires as we go through life.
